Discover the 12 pillars of Vita's culture.

Vita's success is built on twelve key cultural pillars and traditions that support its diverse team.

Awesome Client Experience

This is our passion, and it should be yours, too. This means we are always striving to create an awesome experience for our clients. It is important to note that awesome doesn’t necessarily mean always saying “yes.” It means that our clients should be “wowed” with our service and our knowledge. It should be noted that clients can mean external clients for those who are in client-facing roles, but it also means providing awesome service to our colleagues and departments that create our internal client structure.

Individual Empowerment

At Vita, professional development and performance are owned by the individual contributor. This is what we mean by Individual Empowerment. Vita has intentionally chosen to adopt this strategy as an important tenet of our business. We find that the most successful people at Vita thrive in this framework. Importantly, it is not the job of team leads to direct growth and prod team members toward performance and professional development. After engaging deeply in the challenges of their role, it is the responsibility of each team member to engage peers and leaders to aid their own development.

Growth Mindset

The Growth Mindset, researched by Carol Dweck, suggests that abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, fostering a love of learning and resilience. In contrast, a Fixed Mindset views traits as unchangeable, focusing on success to maintain a sense of intelligence. A Growth Mindset can be cultivated with effort and challenges, and we encourage you to embrace this approach.

Radical Candor

Radical candor, a concept developed by Kim Scott, a Stanford business researcher, emphasizes the importance of clear and candid communication in business. It involves caring personally while challenging directly and providing feedback that is both kind and clear. By following these principles, teams can foster strong relationships and a culture of sincere guidance, motivating members to excel. At Vita, we aim to embody radical candor, believing that even with imperfect execution, clear intentions form a solid foundation for our company.

Antifragile Design

The concept of Antifragile, developed by Nassim Taleb, suggests that the opposite of fragile is not resilient but anti-fragile, meaning it improves under pressure. Both businesses and individuals can adopt this mindset to view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than merely enduring them.

Never Miss an Opportunity to Learn

While striving for growth, it's crucial to focus on failure communication, which involves openly discussing failures to learn from them. This proactive communication is essential for personal and organizational growth. At Vita, team members are expected to address mistakes promptly and engage in growth discussions, fostering a culture of trust and accountability. Embracing a Growth Mindset, failure is seen as a learning opportunity rather than a judgment of abilities. Effective communication about failures is vital to uphold Vita's principles and ensure responsiveness to demands, ultimately preventing missed learning opportunities.

Data Story

Vita uses key metrics to ensure performance goals are met, emphasizing the importance of each team member's "Data Story." Unlike the past reliance on verbal accounts, Vita now leverages data-driven decisions. Team members must understand what their data reveals about their work and engagement.

Professional Development

At Vita, professional development is prioritized through monthly one-on-one meetings between team members and leaders to discuss achievements, growth, and future goals. Team members maintain a Professional Development Notebook to track learnings and feedback. The Vita Proficiency Matrix helps assess and challenge skills, with self-assessments recommended twice a year. The focus is on identifying opportunities for skill enhancement rather than highlighting deficiencies.

Knowledge Workers and Operational Efficiency

At Vita, we have transitioned to a workforce of knowledge workers, focusing on expertise and strategic execution. Our commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing keeps us at the forefront of our field. As business accelerates, we emphasize operational efficiency, transferring routine tasks to partners and encouraging innovative solutions from our team.

Design Thinking

We aim to use Design Thinking, a process with six phases, to develop new strategies and improvements. This approach is iterative, not linear, involving revisiting phases to refine ideas, incorporate feedback, and enhance the final product.

Conflict and Escalation

Vita is dedicated to maintaining a positive workplace by encouraging employees to resolve conflicts directly and constructively within and across teams. When conflicts cannot be resolved, escalation is appropriate, using a protocol that respects all parties and considers the broader impact on the team and organization.

Aspiration Grounded in Reality

At Vita, we aim to balance our aspirations with the reality of our current position and growth needs, both as a company and in supporting our team. We encourage team members to also ground themselves in their present reality while aspiring to grow professionally and personally.
